Alexis Gill Selected For Code Crush

Betty Bricker

by Brea Martin

Alexis Gill was selected to be a participant of Code Crush at UNO at the end of November. There were over 70 applicants from Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. In order to apply, students had to be a 8th or 9th grade girl interested in learning more about technology. Students had to write a paragraph about themselves and why they should be selected. Here are a few words from Alexis about her experience:

“My experience at CodeCrush was super exciting because it felt like a real college experience. While there, I got learn about the world of IT and about how it could use some more strong, independent women. I think my favorite class by far was Bioinformatics because it combined two of my favorite things: Biology and Technology. I would suggest asking your teacher to nominate you for this amazing experience because it will boost your confidence, make you a little smarter and there are so many cool people that you get to meet while you are there. So, if you are a girl reading this, or your teacher is reading it to you, think about it. Because, when you’re in eighth grade, there’s a chance that you could go and have a great time, meet new people, and explore who you are. And if IT is something you want to do in your life, then shoot for the stars and make it happen.”
